Course for a physiotherapist – are you a physiotherapist and want to know what courses are worth doing? Be sure to read! In order to do our job well, whatever we do in life, we need to practice as much as possible. For professional development, it is necessary to invest in yourself, take part in courses, train and meet new people who allow us to see and discover new horizons.

The professions of physiotherapists are similar. This work consists mainly in contact with others, analyzing their bodies and movement patterns. Typically, this work is done on patients who are seriously ill or recovering. This excludes errors and incompetence at work. Therefore, when choosing a program for a physiotherapist, there are several key issues to keep in mind.

First, practice

As with the training of a personal trainer or fitness trainer, the practical part should be a key element of each course. Of course, this does not mean that the theory is completely redundant. We need to understand this so that we know what to look for in patients, what dysfunctions to look for and how to support them. Ultimately, however, each of us is different and working with others cannot learn through schemes and schemes. Before you decide on a Physiotherapist course, make sure that in addition to the theoretical part, the course also offers a practical part that allows you to practice the application of what you have learned.

Secondly, the basics

When choosing a course for a physiotherapist, we should focus on what applies to each person, if we do not have or plan a specific specialization. In fact, many patients suffer from muscle spasms, fascia problems or back pain due to sedentary work. In the era of increasing physical activity, stress testing, physical rehabilitation or nerve and trigger point mobilization courses and osteopathic examinations would be a great option. Sure, we could specialize in urogynecology or sensory integration, but if we don’t know how to grow our business, we’re likely to be stuck without clients or income.

It is difficult to point to a specific approach that is always worth investing in. The Evjenth-Kaltenborn therapy provides a good basis for understanding the biomechanics of joints and movement. Although it has its age, it is still a good basis for people planning to specialize in manual therapy. For those physiotherapists who are looking for something more challenging, the HVLS technique, or the short lever manipulation technique, would be a great option. These types of courses are quite expensive, but the knowledge provided in them allows for the practical implementation of lever techniques, which are also an advanced form of manual therapy.

A very popular physiotherapist’s training (and the method preferred by patients) is also Kinesiotaping, which is useful not only when working with athletes. It is often used not only as a supportive treatment for injuries, but also as a method of preventing injuries. In this training, we will learn how to properly place the patch on the body to effectively perform its function, i.e. separate the muscles from the fascia to make room for fluids circulating in the body. The main advantage of this training is also its low price and short duration.

What will happen during the course?

The quality of the course is very important for the qualification level of the staff. It has nothing to do with getting a degree. Even more important is whether trainers are able – and willing – to share their knowledge and case studies in the classroom. An important part of working with another person is the psychological aspect, approach to the patient and skilful conversation with him. Not that some physical therapists have it and others don’t. Empathy and the ability to recognize the problems and concerns of other people is something that each of us can learn to a large extent. Interviews with clients are a key part of the professional work of a personal trainer or physiotherapist. In the initial conversation, we need to define the patient’s purpose of coming to us, his expectations of us – and of himself – and what is bothering him.

The material we receive in the course is also very important in the course. It does not have to concern leaflets, pens, lanyards or notebooks. I got acquainted with the extensive bibliography, i.e. descriptions of specific cases, if we prefer, more valuable.

During the physiotherapist’s course, we should learn to recognize dysfunctions of the musculoskeletal system in potential patients. Therefore, we should practice these skills in the course. This is followed by suggestions for exercises and entire training units that we can show to students according to their needs.

When deciding on the choice of a program for physiotherapists, remember that self-education of the profession is a statutory requirement and training, and we must. Therefore, it is best to choose those that give us the most. It would be perfect if we already knew what we were interested in. Then the choice of the course will be easier, and the effect will be more effective in the form of acquired theoretical and practical knowledge.
